Cubs have won 7 straight. They have had at least 10 hits in each of the last 7 games. Derrek Lee is batting .389 and is 11 for his last 13 at bats (8 for 8 in his last two games). The pitching is getting better even without Prior and Wood, including a 1 hitter yesterday (Zambrano) and a 4 hit shutout tonight (Rusch).
UPDATE 6.6.05: Good article on Derrek Lee on the front page of Sportsline.com today.
This is fun baseball, and the race for the playoffs is getting tight. After a pitiful beginning of the season, this may be an interesting summer after all
no prior = no losses?

The Cubs make it exceedingly difficult to explain wins and losses. You just take them as they come. :)

Dying animals are often noisy: it's call "death throes."
A StL Cardinal since '61 (I was 11)!

Uh, it's "called" . . .
I didn't say I was smart.

HAHAHAHAHA! You are right, Cardinals are pretty stupid. HAHA. By the way, I saw a robin giving a beat down on a Cardinal in our front yard feeder the other day. Cardinals look good, but that's about it. :)
Honestly, I knew this post would generate heat from some insecure Cardinal fan. Thanks for being that fan Mike. ;^)

not an insecure Cardinal fan. But, funny nonetheless that a Cubs fan would ever call a Cardinal insecure. Thanks for the laugh.
What playoff race are you referring to that is heating up? Is that the wildcard race you are referring to? Not the central, I assume, which should be wrapped up by Labor Day (numerically) and July 4 (for all practical purposes).
Good luck though.

I knew you would be stopping by Rick. Insecure fans always get defensive for one another.
Hey, the real quality of being a Cubs fan is that we can lose and never feel insecure about it. We expect it. It's our identity. ;^)
Someone let me enjoy my 10 seconds of hope please.

I lived north of Kansas City until I was 12. Somehow Cardinal hatred has been imbedded in me. When we moved to SE Missouri, WGN Chicago opened my heart to the Cubs. Now that Harry Carey is gone and Sosa faded and then was traded I have moved on. My dad passed on his love for the Astros to me. So my two favorite teams are the Royals and Astros. I don't even bother checking the standings for the Royals. It is beyond hope. The Astros are just old. It's a bad year for baseball for me. The only thing that could make it worse would be if the Cardinals won the World Series. Then I would have to hear my in-laws gloat.

Hey, they are bound to lose a game sometime.

Good call, how about twice...just kidding, i am one of the few huge baseball fans in Canada.

Go Cardinals!!!! Jeff

Oh crap. I can't just love my Cubs and that be the end of it. :)

You see Steve, the entire planet loves to add to the misery of the Cubs fans, its your destiny. :) Jeff

Hey, I could drop bombs too, like how the Cards crash landed in the playoffs last year after looking almost unbeatable during the season. But I'm not going to say that. I'm not going to link to articles like this one talking about the sweep of this "powerhouse" of a team. I'm just not about that.
Posted by: Steve McCoy | 06/08/2005 at 03:08 PM
I sure glad you are not like that...neither am I but I have a question.
Did the Cubs make the post season last year? :) Jeff
Posted by: Jeff T | 06/08/2005 at 03:37 PM
No, you are right, the Cubs didn't have the best team in baseball and then blow it last year. :)
Posted by: Steve McCoy | 06/08/2005 at 03:44 PM
By the way, Cubs win today Blue Jay Kyle.
