"Good golfers are bad Christians.' - Mark Driscoll
I must be an amazing Christian after the two rounds of golf I played on vacation.
Jesus-follower, husband, father, pastor, photographer, writer
RC Sproul is an excellent golfer.

Is the converse true? If so, I'm a great Christian!

the barbarian way is good, but his other books have been even that much better. the first two especially (an unstoppable force, seizing your divine moment). but really, his new book due out in october (chasing daylight) has a subtitle that seems to merge the concepts he's had from all his other books. i dunno, i really like his stuff, but i think he's kinda beating it to death. maybe.
and payne stewart? i hear he was both.

Joe, is that Erwin McManus you're referring to?
Bad golf is a spiritual discipline IMO; either it keeps you humble or gives you an opportunity to keep your tongue under control!

What would Mark Driscoll say to Bernard Langer, or Payne Stewart, or Larry Moody, or Tom Lehman?
Maybe I should put it another way: Good hockey players (or soccer players, or Tour de France riders) are bad Christians.

I figured I would need to jump in and give some context, which I should have given more at the beginning. Sorry. :)
He was speaking to pastors and would-be pastors. He meant that to be a good pastor you can't be a good golfer. Not that you can't make a career out of it. He was saying that to be a good pastor and a good husband and a good father (probably also speaking of pastors with smaller children) you just don't have time for hobbies. Maybe overstated, but I think an important point.
All is well now. Relax low handicappers. :)

Well a former pastor (at a church I left) must be a really bad Christian - he was even getting golfing reimbursements for taking visitors and others golfing as "outreach"...
