Man, this is too funny. Am I the only one who thinks it's funny that Baptist Press is now publishing articles to pimp the Disney movies that may have been missed during the Southern Baptist Convention boycott?
My take...
1. Almost no one boycotted Disney if they had kids.
2. If people with kids did boycott Disney, it was probably because they had other convictions, like that TV corrupts the little cherubs and should be avoided altogether (unless it's Prayer Bear, Bible Man, or the like). So these guys wouldn't watch Disney anyway, and still won't.
3. Do we really want to taint our eyes with movies made during such a horrible time in the corporate life of Disney? I mean, if we shouldn't watch a movie by them in 1999, maybe we shouldn't watch it now out of protest for who they were then, eh? Otherwise we may be encouraging them to return to their old ways, and may result in another future boycott.
4. If I want to know about Disney movies, I'm not going to listen to someone writing for the organization who shouldn't know about all the Disney movies that were missed. Can I trust someone who crossed the boycott lines in the heat of the battle? Or should I trust someone who just watched 25 DVD's in like 6 weeks trying to catch up with what they missed? I think not.
That's some funny stuff! Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

I can remember when my sisters wanted to watch the Disney channel or ABC. I would say "hey that's disney you're not supposed to be watching that". At first my parents were into the boycott, but after about a day they weakened. What was cool was that ESPN(it purchased by ABC right before the boycott list was put out, I don't know if it was too late to put it on the list or if it was an "oversight" wink wink)was not on the list. sweet.

I never knew Disney was in league with the devil until I went to a youth group shortly after becoming a believer. The youth pastor went down the line and explained how each disney movie was "tainted." Thus, I was encourage to reject Walt as my savior and again come to Jesus. No more under the sea. No more circle of life. No beauty and the beast. Oh, those were rough days.

I took my family to WDW a few years ago. Our denomination didn't take part in the boycott. We've already written off most of the world anyway. Why single out Disney? But I digress. While I was there I was really surprised at all the things I had to correct with my kids. It was no big deal to do this. I think it's stupid to expect society to instill good values. But I was surprised that I ran into such a strong humanistic worldview that Disney presents. We don't see many Disney movies so maybe I'm jus ignorant hereBottom line, if you go to WDW you have to take time to do some corrective teaching.

Joel, I have to do corrective teaching after VBS too. ;)

Steve, don't go bringing logic into the conversation. This is too funny.

This is too funny! I thought you were kidding until I read the article for myself.
Which reminds me--did anyone else receive the free IMB promotional video in the mail this week?
It has NINE Eloise clips on it. On the back it actually says, "Who's your granny? It better be ELOISE! No matter what she's up to, she's always rockin' and sockin' for missions and J.C."
The clips are titled: "Get Outta tha' Boat", "B-ballin'", "Short-term missions are da Bomb, Yo!", "You da Man", "Sixth Man", "Why Everybody Hatin'?", "Rollin' with "E", "Go Jesus", and "Shout Out to JC!"
Make it stop.....please make it stop!!!!!!!

This article is like something you'd read on The Onion. In fact I'm not sure THEY could have thought this up. Too Funny!

I must have missed hearing about the whole SBC boycott of Disney. Most of that time, I think I was boycotting SBC churches because of their reputation among my other Christian friends of being full of fundamentalist fruitcakes. But then I attended a Southern Baptist church as a "permaguest" for some years, and I found all the horror stories unfounded.
Of course, I boycott most Disney movies, anyway, because they are so lame.

Kiki, sadly all of the kids at Falls Creek got to see Eloise nightly. I kept wondering what the black kid in front of me was thinking about it.
Make it stop, indeed!
