For those in the SBC or interested in SBC issues, Wade Burleson, Oklahoma pastor and IMB trustee, is facing a vote for removal as a trustee. You can read what Wade says about it on his blog. I also recommend you keep up with it on my other blog, Missional Baptist Blog.
This may be the most important year in some time to attend our annual convention in Greensboro, NC as Wade's fate as a trustee will be voted on by SBC'rs in attendance. I will be there.
Steve,
I am not well versed in the SBC (though unfortunatley I've had many negative experiences with those who claim to be a part), and I'm curious on what exactly the issue is here in regards to voting Wade out as Trustee.
Love the blog!

I will deal with it in more length on my other blog. But Burleson spoke out against new missionary policies for our mission org (IMB) and says he has been accused of "gossip" and "slander," probably in conjunction with his new blog discussing the IMB issues. I don't see where those accusations can be true having read his blog. For more read Wade's blog, my other blog, and I've listed other sites on my other blog too.

I think this is one of the saddest days in the history of the SBC.
Last night someone told me, in relation to what Wade has recently posted , that when people are exposed they just don't like those who exposed them, they hate them.

What Wade has done raises a question to me. I wonder how he would react if a member of his congregation who was in a meeting dealing with issue as the IMB does did not agree with him and decided to use the local paper to voice that disagreement with privileged communications?? I bet he will act more like the IMB than WADE, the hatchet man!

Tom,
Go back and read everything. Wade has never revealed any of the privileged communications, not even a hint. The things he has published are things that occurred in the public meetings or outside the meetings altogether. That's pretty important distinction.

I used to attend Wade's Church (Emmanual Baptist) in Enid. He is one of the greatest men of GOd i know, I am a pastor now for SBC and i agree with Wade. I think exclusion from mission work based on human achievement is stupid and baised. We as SBCr's Need to recoginize this and act....

I was raised as a Unitarian and converted to Christ in a Southern Baptist Church. I was ordained in 1970 and pastored three different S B C churches and missions over the next 18 years. I was a strong supporter of the movement to take the Convention back from the Liberals and was grateful to God for the successes made in that endevor. I left Southern Baptist work for several reasons not the least of which was the anti-tongues teaching among those who became leaders. If a devout Christian who has a prayer language can not serve as an appointed missionary you would not have appointed the greatest missionary of all time: The Apostle Paul. Shame on the IMB.
