Spiritual Disciplines: Abstinence & Engagement
I take it from the article that Wise is of the Henry Morris, Creation Science, young earth school of thought. Dembski wasn't.
Is that significant? And does it speak to a change of direction in the dept. at SBTS?

I think it speaks positively for the direction Patterson is taking SWBTS more than it speaks for the direction of SBTS. I've secretly heard that they're getting one of my favorite professors from NOBTS as well, but I'll let that come out on their terms. SWBTS is taking, from what I gather, great effort in raising their academic level. Too bad it's at the expense of Southern and New Orleans.

There are several speculations as to why Dembski is leaving Southern. I don't want to add to the speculation here. I also don't know anything about Wise. What I do know is that Dembski's family has remained in Texas throughout this past year, and I believe there were some family commitments which prevented them from making the move to Louisville. SWBTS will definitely benefit from having Dembski, and I hope that everything works out for both seminaries.
On another note, it has been announced that SBTS is starting a center for Theology and the Arts as well as center for Thelogy and Law.
One of the benefits of having various seminaries in the SBC is that they each carry their distinctive strengths. This is a win-win situation for all those desiring to attend an SBC seminary (and get the discounted price). :)

SWBTS has needed to upgrade their faculty for a long time. Patterson is finally doing that.
It stinks for Southern, but like Timmy said, it seems family played a big role in this and we can all see how important that is.
I don't think this says anything about the philosophical views on this subject of either seminary. But you never know.

Apparently it's public now that Dr. Steven Ortiz is moving to SWBTS from NOBTS. It's in the article found here. I do hate that SWBTS is growing at our expense, but I think this will help Dr. Ortiz in his pursuit of running a top-notch archaeology department.
