I've started a new blog. Yeah I know, but it's not what you think. I've started this blog to bless and encourage the blessing of my city. It's called Living in Woodstock, IL and it's all about life in Woodstock (go figure). Actually, it's a non-political, non-advertisement, and completely pro-Woodstock, IL site that intends to spark conversation about and enjoyment of our city.
It's really just about my experiences (personal and family). I'm not really sure how it will work, IF it will work, or what exactly it will become in the days ahead. But I figured it was worth a try.
So check it out and let me know what you think. But please, don't comment there. That's for locals and Woodstock lovers only. Thanks.
Sweet! Wish I had thought of it.

Steve,
That's cool you live in Woodstock. My mother grew up in Crystal Lake and my grandma and a bunch of relatives still live there today. I remember traveling through Woodstock many times when I was kid on US HWY 14.

Steve, What a great idea! This is a great practical application from some of the principles Stetzer and Keller spoke about at Reform and Resurge a few weeks ago. As I read this post, I thought, "Yes! That's it!"

Excellent idea, Steve! One of those, "Why didn't I think of that" ideas.

Is it supposed to be white text on yellow background? I can't read a word of it and I'm actually blogging from my cell phone as the ambulance is rushing me to the hospital after experiencing wild convulsions after glancing at it.
Great idea though man. I'm eager to see how it shakes down. I'll send you the hospital bill

Anyone else having viewing issues? The colors are fine on my computers and browsers.

I have forwarded this site to several reformed watchblogs. We'll see what they have to say.

Great idea, Steve... can we uhh... ste.....errr... borrow the idea?

Maybe I will have to get out to Woodstock to hang out with you after all!
Just a follow up comment on colors... On Mac it works great in all browsers except Safari. Safari has issues with the green background. It's all yellow and since the text is white, it's fairly unreadable.
I'm just pointing it out. I guess in saying this I feel like an unhealthy church member - you know, always stating the problems but I don't try to help you with the solution. Hmmm... good luck!

Darren, it seems to me that the solution is for Safari users to find a real browser. :)
Thanks for the feedback all.

Excellent idea, Steve. Seriously, why didn't I think of that? No kidding, this is awesome. Thanks for inspiring us by example. I'll be paying attention to Woodstock and what you do there.

awesome idea! nice look and feel, too

I won't deny it... I guess Apple can't do everything right!
Way to love your city, by the way!

Steve, I love this idea and am really interested in how it works out. Make sure to keep us updated on its missional impact here.
As a church planter in a community of Wisconsinites being invaded by young, techie, blog-heads, I might have to actually try this.
Posted by: Josh | 05/26/2006 at 07:24 AM
Steve,
I remember reading a church plant's launching plan the had a similar idea. They hoped to launched a website that helped newcomers to the area find housing, school info, employment info, and so on. The website was to be completely distinct from the church and to simply be a way to demostrate love/care to their community. I'm sure how it went but I'm glad to see you doing something like it!

Great idea except I am on a Mac and can't read a word of it with those colors.
Still a great idea though....

I've been there once, mostly to 'Ooh' and 'Aah' over being in the place where they shot Groundhog Day.
But I'm sure you don't get much of that at all.;)

I go to a Harvest Bible Chapel associated church in North Carolina, and my pastor is from Chicago. Today, he used a sermon illustration about the bulldog vet that he used to drive from Chicago to Woodstock to see. Thought of you. So, apparently you have a famous bulldog vet there.

I'm viewing on a Mac in Safari, and its not good on the eyes - white text on a yellow background. I can't even begin to read it.

I don't know how to make it work for Safari since I don't have it and I don't have a Mac. Someone sent me a screen capture so I can see what it looks like, but I have no way of changing it and checking it.
Posted by: Steve McCoy | 05/29/2006 at 06:22 PM
It looks fine in Safari now, Steve. Different than it does in Firefox, but it's readable. No worries.
Posted by: Joe Kennedy | 05/30/2006 at 01:32 AM
I changed the background and hoped that might work. Not ideal, but hey, it's the least I can do for my three Mac users. :)

Somebody send Steve a Mac!
