I've had a few questions from non-SBC'rs about the shofar stuff a couple of posts down. I know outsiders don't get the context. So, if you want to know more, read my post from last year's SBC annual meeting in Nashville and then view this video (especially the last 4 minutes).
We used to have a charismaniac dude who blew a shofar unannounced. He also would walk around the city blowing the stupid thing. He was a wealthy guy and had a really nice one, too. I was on staff at the church and the youth guy and I would laugh our heads off - we couldn't help it!

As a former SBC'er I am deeply amused, somewhat embarrassed, yet not surprised...thanks for sharing, I laughed tons reading the convention post.

I wasn't there. I tried to watch it... but it was just too painful.

A friend recently told me about how, after many many attempts, he finally convinced an unbelieving buddy of his to attend a church service with him. He had been discussing the gospel with this guy, and he was pretty certain that he would hear a clear presentation of the gospel that night in church. That evening the pastor preached on the use of the shofar. I think there were loud demonstrations of the instruments' booming power, too! Said unbelieving buddy rode home pretty confused and a bit wierded out.
