Really important breaking news. Tom Cruise is Christ of Scientology.
Jesus-follower, husband, father, pastor, photographer, writer
What will he tell Jesus when he meets him? This is chilling.

how is it that Jesus gets depicted as a blond with blue eyes and flowing hair but an American "christ" is dark haired. they could have at least upheld the stereotype... why not jimmy buffett?

Making a claim like that is some serious "Risky Buisness". I knew Scientologists were weird people, but this is "Far and Away" the dumbest thing I've heard in a while. What the world really needs is the Spirit's "Rain, Man".
Get it?

I’m writing you to ask for your help. This post, based on a “report” by one of England’s worst tabloids “The Sun”, is 100% false. It is also harmful, libelous and foments incorrect notions about my religion Scientology so as to cause strife and intolerance. I need your help to set the record straight.
In actual fact, nobody within the Church of Scientology considers themselves to be “Christ-like” – this would be a very inappropriate and arrogant comment and I’m sure you can see how this is being used only to antagonize Christians everywhere.
We Scientologists appreciate Tom Cruise’s efforts as a spokesperson of many of our Church’s initiatives, such as HELPLearn (literacy center), and his speaking up against the overprescription of psychiatric drugs to children. But he’s just an actor, holds no rank within our Church, and is by NO MEANS a “prophet” – and I am certain he himself would be embarrassed at the thought.
Tabloids routinely run the most outrageous lies about our Church. I am not asking that you support nor joing our movement, but simply that you support fairness and decency by not promoting such lies.
If you'd like, feel free to get in touch with the Church’s Media Relations department, at http://www.scientologytoday.org/Contacts/index.htm
Thank you.
Best,
Greg Churilov,
Scientology Parishioners League

Just because he's their "Top Gun", doesn't make him Jesus. I mean, I know he has "All the Right Moves" these days, but seriously! I wonder what kind of "Collateral" damage might come from making a statement like that? Spiritually speaking, this is a "War of the Worlds". Hearing things like this just makes me want to look to the "Vanilla Sky" for Christ's return. The "Days of Thunder" are coming soon.
Ok. I'm done.

Ninth Commandment: "Do not bear false witness"

Funny pic man.
Guys, just to keep things in perspective, Cruise did not come up with this. The religion he belongs to, someone in leadership specifically, told him this. Scientology is certainly a combination of sci-fi/alien fiction and philosophy - something I would consider more than "weird." I'd go with dangerous. But let's not call people names. Besides, have you ever looked in a church? As if Christians aren't "weird people?" Even if we leave out the snake handling and extreme charismatic branches, we often look like a group of idiots ourselves.
The whole thing is odd and Scientology has a pretty ugly image (start searching for video of how the group treats its protestors and critics, or go back and read the old Time article on the religion). It does lead people away from the gospel, and we should interact with it evangelistically while treating its adherents with charity.
Ok, the party pooper is leaving.

Obviously, I overlapped in time and missed a few comments while I was typing. Greg, thanks for walking in here with class and a gracious spirit. People here will have some serious disagreements with some of the teachings of Scientology, and would want to discuss those things, but hopefully it can be done with mutual respect.

Dude: Jesus was never that pretty.

Greg, I'm not trying to promote or refute The Sun. I just thought a visual of what they are saying would be funny. I had the image in my head all day and late last night I acted upon it. Over the last year or two I have done the same with pictures of Christians I love and respect. So this shouldn't been seen as a show of disrespect. It was just funny to me, and most commenters seem to see it that way.
I do think it would be more fun if it were true (and more dangerous), but I don't know. I do appreciate you coming here in the hope of clearing the air. But Scientologists are allowed to laugh, right? ;)

Tom likes to laugh, that's for sure.

Didn't L. Ron Hubbard say "The man on the cross...there was no Christ."? He also in OTVIII says that Jesus was a pedophile. LRH thinks that all religions (except of Scientology, of course) are an "R6" implant, forced upon us by the EVIL Galactic Overlord XENU!

Since this thread has been infested by moron (yes, I've left off the "s") I've closed the comments. Have a nice day.
