I decided to NOT make a prediction on the Super Bowl, though everyone already knows I believe the Bears will win. But I can't restrain myself. I...must...predict. My mandatory "Da Bears" pick is Chicago 213, Colts 10. But my slightly more realistic pick is Bears by 3: Bears 31, Colts 28.
I believe the Bears will see a slow first half of offense and a mediocre first half of defense. They will be down at halftime. At the beginning of the second half the special teams and defense will come on in a huge way and make a few plays and stops. There will be at least one second half touchdown by the defense. The Bears will be up and Peyton will be Peyton, taking over the game. He will lead them to one touchdown but on the second drive will give up an interception ending their Super Bowl hopes. The MVP will be Mark Anderson, who will have a great game and put pressure on Manning beyond anyone's expectations but his own.
Okay, that was way too much info. Go Bears!
Oh Boy! I like this post. I'm in total agreement with it! I was rooting for the Patriots but our dear friend wants the Bears. We were hoping for a Superbowl match. C'est la vie. But now it's even more fun cause we are rooting for the Bears. May your predition be proven prophetic, Steve.

no way da Bears stop Peyton...Indy 45 Chicago 17.

Did you say something Pete? I see letters and numbers, but they make so little sense that I just can't find the meaning. ;)

Dude,
Its either the strong drink or cheap cigars, Colts 35 and the Bears 17.
Posted by: Kyle Goen | 02/03/2007 at 07:05 PM
You are right. You could only imagine the Colts winning if you are enjoying strong drink, which you seem to have self-identified. Step 2 is doing something about it. After all, the Bible says that God helps those who help themselves. ;)

Only David could defeat the bear. Unfortunately for Long-neck, I mean Peyton, David had more tools at his disposal, courage to stand and face the beast, and the skills to defeat the bear. Bears will win by seven, for it is Biblical to win. The streets in Heaven are paved in gold, but the sidewalks are an alternating Blue and Orange. I have never been so offended as a Christian than to see brothers in Christ cheering for the foals, oh sorry, Colts. God Bless Walter Payton.
BEARSSS!

well if you want to play the Bible card, Dan...remember that Jesus did sit on a Colt during his Triumphal Entry
Posted by: Pete Williamson | 02/03/2007 at 07:48 PM
Yes, and the Bears will sit on the Colts on their way to victory. Good word, Pete.

interesting Christology there, Steve...
Posted by: Pete Williamson | 02/03/2007 at 08:04 PM
I was about to say the same to you, Pete. ;)
Posted by: Steve McCoy | 02/03/2007 at 08:06 PM
I know you are but what am I? :)

Very close, but no cigar. The actual Final Score:
Bears 41
Colts 13
This is not really a prediction, since earlier in the week I was visited by the Ghosts of the Chicago Bears Past, Present, and Future in a dream. I peeked at the final scoreboard while the Spirit of the Chicago Bears Future was dragging me around Miami. That was a mistake - no real suspense in watching the game for me now.
Anyway, the whole Dickensian tale is linked below, which will probably only be understood and appreciated by Bears fans:

Defense wins championships. Da Bears barely win it by a touchdown. Worse part about will be Steve gloating for at least another nine months until the Bengals sober up and take it next year.

will the Bengals be out of prison in time for next season?
Posted by: Pete Williamson | 02/03/2007 at 08:43 PM
I have no comeback. Its just been ridiculous around the Paul Brown Stadium.

Bears 236, Colts -2

It is so sad to such a great leader become so brainwashed for evil! :-)
Get your tissue box ready because Dungy and his boys will be walking away with the trophy tonight.

Only the trophy his mommy made for him. Bearss

I withdraw all my comments previously made on this post until further notice when the real Chicago Bears can be found.
Posted by: Dan Barnett | 02/04/2007 at 09:00 PM
Well, I'm afraid that was the real Chicago Bears. The Bears were on or off this season. My hope was finding the "on" Bears and we didn't. They deserved to lose today.
It was a great season, and it doesn't hurt my feelings to see Payton win one.
By the way, the commercials were terrible this year.
Posted by: Steve McCoy | 02/04/2007 at 09:07 PM
Jones, Hester, Urlacher all showed up and did all they could. The rest need to go home and write one paragraph each on why they decided to embarass their city. Manning made the clutch plays he needed to make and led that team all night. The commercials were almost as pitiful as the gaps left by the Bears secondary. I liked the first one about the fist bump being out. That was good. Hopefully the Bears will hold on to Lovey. I don't think Rex lost this game alone, but he has shown this season he is not important to the success of this team. I think they need to look for a good rookie in the draft, and bump Griese to starter. Congrats to all you colts fans :-) You're team came to win. They deserved every bit of metal on that trophy tonight.

Here is my Super Bowl prediction:
With da Bears loss, Chicago ownership will be less likely to hold on to Smith by moving quickly to renegotiate his contract. He will go from one of the lowest paid to one of the highest paid coaches but for a different team.
Lovie will be coming to Dallas as the new head coach of America's Team.
I am sorry for you lose, both of the Superbowl and of a great man and coach in Lovie Smith.
"A charming legend about Lovie Smith's life in football is that his mother, Mae, supposedly once had a very vivid dream that her son would become a head coach in the NFL someday ... for the Dallas Cowboys." --Mike Downey ChicagoSports.com, Jan 23, 2007

Bears over the Colts. Ouch. Did you all happen to forget that Rex Grossman is the Bears QB? Rex, "I played in the most overrated college conference in the history of mankind" Grossman. Sorry fellas. I hope that you used a good beer to wash the pain away.

Your prediction couldn't have been more wrong! The game was opposite of how you predicted. Anywho. . . Dungy and Smith are class guys and it was good to see them being upfront about their faith. In a game where so many of those of give "all the glory to the Lord" seem almost like a cliche, these guys showed the real thing. They truly did "walk the talk" and have done so for many years!

Better luck next year. (I'll leave it at that and not gloat and rub it in.)

HAHA you sorry Bears lost. Quite being so arrogant.
Posted by: Chuck | 02/05/2007 at 06:25 PM
Chuck, deep breath buddy. It's just a game. Quite taking it so seriously.
Posted by: Steve McCoy | 02/05/2007 at 07:45 PM
kmack,
Uh, couldn't the MVP be called Peyton "I played in the same conference as Grossman" Manning?
Posted by: Scott Lamb | 02/05/2007 at 07:46 PM
Chuck I think you meant quit. Just a thought from an arrogant Bears fan.
