I don't get into church lists very much. Seem to me to be mostly a waste of energy. But since I'm a Kellerophile I figured I should mention that Redeemer Pres in NYC has been named the #1 on the Top 25 Multiplying Churches in America list by Outreach Magazine. In other news, my local church didn't make the list.
Well, maybe your church didn't but it is still a neat church with a cool pastor. We can't all be Redeemers.
Well, I guess Joe can because isn't that what they renamed their church mash up? But they aren't on the list either.
Kidding aside, this is excellent news because you know that Redeemer isn't just spinning off churches, they're planting theologically-healthy missional churches. And they're doing it in a very strategic location.

I think #2 on this list is just as interesting as well.

Actually, Ryan, I'm really happy with the top three. Keller, Driscoll, and Roberts. All are doing great work and are good guys.

you were number 26... grin.
a little off subject, but we are praying for your wife... and I am using this post as an excuse to tell you

Thanks Ed. Really appreciate it. Truth be told, I care about my wife even more than I care about Tim Keller. :)

You love your wife more than Keller? High praise indeed.
That would be a tough choice for many. Grin.
BTW, the "Molly needs a new brain" thing is WAY creepy.

Does anyone else see the irony of a Calvinist church being the number one church in outreach?
Maybe someone should tell John Connell so he can put that in his anti-Calvinist pipe and smoke it. :)

since I was a member of Redeemer for almost ten years I thought I would chime in.
I recall going to Redeemer when the church was only several hundred and you could talk with Tim after the service for a long while one-on-one. BTW... that is impossible now because Tim does 4 or 5 services on a given Sunday. I'm not knocking the growth... it was wild seeing hundreds of new people come through the doors every week.
I also realized I was being selfish thinking Redeemer should have stayed small at the time... people really need hear Tim and the more people, the better.
To Les' point, I never thought of Redeemer as a Calvinist church, nor am I or most of my friends who happen to still attend 'reformed.' Although the doctrine is clearly reformed, Redeemer is first and foremost a missional church; a Gospel-centered church that does an incredible job of feeding it's members, and speaking well to postmodern seekers.

sacred vapor,
I do not believe that being reformed/calvinistic is antithetical to being missional. In fact, I believe that it strengthens the heart of the missional church.
