I'm not ashamed to once again (are you bored with me yet?) state my crush on Okkervil River. This time nothing to offer but my excitement. I'm taking my wife to see Okkervil River with me in Milwaukee next Monday. I haven't seen a real concert out of the Christian ghetto since college. Awesome. I'll be listening to them a lot this week so I can be one of those really sweaty people singing along with every song.
Oddly enough, Norah Jones has covered Arcade Fire's "Ocean of Noise."
Check out Scroobius Pip and Dan le Sac's "Thou Shalt Always Kill."
Here's an explanation...
i drank the koolaid and bought okkervil's new album last week based on your recommendation. pretty stellar...
also, arcade fire's album may be the best of '07. dark, broody, quasi-spiritual, emotional, thick. wowsers...
what's the story on mark geary & pelican in your audiophile?
btw, so glad to see your wife is doing better. i pray her strength is getting back close to normal. blessings!

Brad,
I'm not sure what you are asking, "what's the story?"

sorry, i was being too cavelier. just meant, can you tell me about them. why you like them. nothing weird. you probably thought i had some theological misgivings about ghosts or echoes or something :)

No, I wasn't worried about any issues you may have. I was worried that I would have to write a long comment trying to cover all the bases since your question was so vague. :)
Geary was a freebie I got at a local indie store, which means I expected it to be terrible. It isn't. I have actually played it quite a bit and like it. It's a little Jack Johnsony. I'm not really sure why it was free, but I'm happy it was.
I got a free Pelican song download and loved it. Thoughtful instru-metal. I dig it.

I saw Okkervil River in Denver last night. They frickin' killed it. I've seen a boatload of shows and I'm telling you these guys will not disappoint you.
