What are your Big 5 daily devotionals?
I'm not asking what books you like to read during a devotional "quiet time." I'm asking about books that are created as daily devotionals. Often they are dated or numbered for daily use. Sometimes they are not yearly but are still written for daily reading. Just make sure they are true devotionals. Got it? Go!
I only have one...the king of devotionals:
My Utmost for His Highest.

No Particular Order:
*My Utmost for His Highest (Chambers)
*Experiencing God, Day by Day (Blackaby)
*Voices of the Faithful (Missionary Devotional: I'm bias because I'm in that one)
*God's Best Secrets (Murray)
*Spurgeon's Daily Meditations (http://www.spurgeon.org/daily.htm)

Does The Valley of Vision count? It's the only one I've stuck with over a significant period of time...

Do you have to have read all the way through it to vote for it?

Great list questions - I could only come up with 3: that I have used:
1. Spurgeon - Mornning and Evening
2. Chambers -Utmost for His Highest
3. Ligonier's Table Talk
I did a search and found a great list on Monergism - http://www.monergism.com/directory/link_category/Devotional/
Would love to hear if anyone has used any of the ones on that list.

No need for me to mention Chambers after everyone already has. But another really great one is "Table in the Wilderness," which collects Watchman Nee's writings.

I'm on vacation, but here's mine...
1. For the Love of God by Carson (1 & 2)

3. Valley of Vision

5. Morning & Evening by Spurgeon
Posted by: Steve McCoy | 08/07/2008 at 06:03 PM
1. Currently enjoying 50 Days of Heaven by Randy Alcorn
2. Really like the various collection by the late Selwyn Hughes; a household name in the U.K. but virtually unknown in the U.S. Each two-month block stays on a particular topic.
3. My Time With God - A NCV complete N.T. read with related O.T. selections and daily devotional commentary by top authors. Only available in New Century Version.
4. Meet The Bible - Philip Yancey & Brenda Quinn - really appreciate having the whole passage written out, so I don't cheat by just reading the key verse.
5. Daily Study Bible (series) - William Barclay - O.K. I don't agree with everything Barclay wrote, but he was thorough.

In addition to Valley of Vision and Morning and Evening, Gadsby's Hymnal makes a great devotional book.
Posted by: Will | 08/09/2008 at 06:43 AM
Along with Morning Thoughts by Octavious Winslow and Valley of Vision I highly recommend Samuel Rutherford's
The Loveliness of Christ.

This is not a 40 day (but neither is Valley of Vision) it's something I've turned to for hope frequently as a pastor. It's downloadable at my link. It's called "Praying Your Church To Life" by a friend of mine. Again, not a traditional devotional but these last few years I've returned to it frequently to deepen my prayer life.

My family and I are searching for a good kids devotional book for kids under 10. We have read the Jesus Story Book Bible several times and have gone through some of the Big Thoughts for Little Thinkers. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
