Amazon's Top 2008 MP3 Albums for $5 sale is a good one. Five of my top 21 are there (Bon Iver - #1, Portishead - #2, Fleet Foxes - #8, Cut Copy - #10, and Vampire Weekend - #12) as well as several others I'd recommend and a few I'd like to check out (like M83, Calexico, The Hold Steady, She & Him, TV on the Radio, and others). A few other good deals: Liam Finn - #5: $5.99, Elbow - #11 = $7.99.
There goes the budget...

Yeah, but it could have been worse if they weren't so cheap! :)

Thanks for those music tips. Over ten hours of Beethoven for 2 bucks, thats awesome. Also got Bon Iver, beautiful harmony, still trying to hear the lyrics, was not expecting the falsetto, and whats with the banging and knocking sounds? What can I say, Im a child of the 70s.

In the UK, Justice is selling for £3.00 at last check. Definitely a worthwhile investment for people who need to get their blood pumping...(just got their live CD A Cross The Universe...very good too)
Not entirely sold on Liam Finn. Just seems a bit empty of soul for me, like he's trying to do "cool by numbers", which is what I think of a lot of bands at the moment. But that's purely subjective. Vampire Weekend...hated them after hearing them perform Oxford Comma live on TV. Now I "get" them. Love the album, really tuneful: sparse but simple and pleasing.
Couldn't get the Beethoven in the UK...gutted.
Fleet Foxes have really nice harmonies.
Amazon are set to take a big chunk away from itunes (or at least encourage them to drop the DRM and provide a choice of file sizes). Interestingly, the amazon file sizes are (IMO) too large. I can now only fit about 4 albums onto a CD for my car now, unless I find something to reduce the file size. Same rules apply for mp3 players. But the lack of DRM is a big bonus: that's where I'll be buying my tunes from now on.

Yeah, I haven't been very excited about the iTunes store. I've been using
Amazon when I download.

I'm an Amazon convert as well. The daily MP3 deals help me get up in the morning. ;)
Curious to hear what impression Dear Science makes on you. If I ever get around to putting my 2008 list together, it will make the top 10.
