I'd love your take on this Steve. I watched the livestream of the Verge conference. I've read and listened to just about all the material available on "missional" church, and I'm getting frustrated. I don't know that I've ever heard the word gospel used so much without any reference to personal sin or to its consequence - hell. In fact I see continual evasion of it. I hope all the talk about how big and comprehensive the gospel is in dealing with citywide "renewal" and "redemption" and "service" and "love" isn't just a backdoor attempt to evade the root of the offensive gospel - we're all idolaters on the way to hell and need the substitution of Christ to cover our sins. Paul was very missional, yet personal sin and salvation was his paradigm.

Darby, at what point in the conference should they have mentioned substitutionary atonement because it was necessary to say? Or hell? We don't need to say every part of every aspect of the gospel at all times, right?

Agreed. I also go along with the notion that most of the missional material is "practical" rather than "theoretical" and I'm also not thinking exclusively about the conference.

I'm going through my reader and I missed this video. Do you know anyone else who has it posted? I would love to check it out. Thanks Steve!

I think whoever uploaded them took them down until final versions are done. That's what I expect, anyway. And I don't know of any that are up. Sorry!
