I've been helping 5th graders learn photography at our local elementary school. The project has been to find and photograph geometric shapes. Here are a few of the ones I've captured as I've been guiding the kids along. Find all my photos for this project and all my photography at Flickr.
Nice! How are the kids doing though?

Well. I don't have any of there photos to post, and will try to grab a few when the project is over. I'll still be helping when I can for the next week or two.

I'm really glad to see this project, and thankful that you're able to help them Steve.
Back in my home state, there's a pretty big battle to take the arts out of schools, and we certainly never had a chance to learn photography in 5th grade.

This is a simple idea to get students (and grownups) looking very closely to notice things with an artist's eye. Thanks for the inspiration--I'm going to have my 8th grade daughter try looking for geometric shapes and take some photos herself.

Thanks Bryan. It's been a great experience.
Ann, exactly. The project was the teacher's idea, and a good one. It's simple enough as a starter idea, and it helps you see the ordinary in a different way. When I walk and talk with the kids about what they see it only takes them 5 minutes to start to see differently.
