Keith and Kristyn Getty's band played a new song (that hasn't been recorded as far as I know) at The Gospel Coalition. It's "a hymn about money" that's "set to the story of the rich young man." My buddy took the video and sent it to me so I could share it with my Music Monday friends. Enjoy!
And when I cling to what I have
Please wrest it quickly from my grasp
I'd rather lose the things of earth
To gain the things of heaven
Who uses the word "wrest" in the western culture?
This is a simpleton's approach to the theology of wealth. We can only hope that is does not become a steady diet in church worship.

Rick, they are singing very biblical words, stories, ideas. That means if you think this song shows a "simpleton's approach to the theology of wealth," you may be the simpleton.

Stevie,
I guess you are right if one thinks that singing biblical words maketh a theology. In that case, it's brilliant.
For others who have thought carefully and biblically about the issues of creation and wealth the song is trite.
Not knowing the difference is the "simpleton."

Rick, you have yet to tell us how it's trite. You didn't like one word they used. That's all you have? You care to make a case or are you just doing a drive-by? Your strong approach is meaningless because it's empty. You aren't giving specifics.
