When I write, study for sermons, etc, I often like to listen to music to drown out other distrations and give my work some rhythm. If it's too lyric-driven (which is a lot of the music I like), it doesn't work. Here are a few of the albums I enjoy when I'm doing work that requires concentration and focus. Name in the comments some albums and artists you like to work to.
- Atlas Sound: Logos
- Burial: Untrue
- Dirty Three: Cinder
- Explosions in the Sky: Take Care, Take Care, Take Care (or anything)
- Mono: Hymn to the Immortal Wind
- Russian Circles: Geneva
- The Social Network Soundtrack
http://amzn.to/n8csQW - anything by Deuter. I have a Pandora channel of almost all Deuter and it is perfect for background sound that won't interrupt your thought, but is actually good enough that if you listen it is interesting. I'd start there.

Thanks for the recommendations. Always looking for new music to work to.
I'm also a big fan of The Social Network Soundtrack. By far my favorite getting work done album.
I like Max Richter.
The Tron Legacy soundtrack is good (Daft Punk) -as well as the remixed version.
Derek Webb's Feedback album is also good.

Tim, both Tron soundtrack and Feedback are in an iTunes folder of mine labeled "Reading Music." I just didn't mention all of them. Good stuff, man. Thanks for pointing them out!

Almost anything by Daniel Lanois. He's the producer behind anything you've ever loved that U2 made, Peter Gabriel's breakthrough solo album, and the Neville Brothers' early work.

Check out a band from my old town of Athens, Ga. called Japancakes. All instrumental, bass, drums, keys, cello, guitar and starring pedal steel. Best pedal steel player in the south, spends most of his time playing with country/Americana bands, but then does this on the side. Unreal stuff that I can listen to over and over again. Best two albums:

Also, I vouch heavily for Explosions in the Sky (everything!) and especially Russian Circles. If you like Russian Circles, you'd probably like another band called If These Trees Could Talk. Similar stuff. Check it.
